We are updating this page, so check back soon!
For many years it has been common for Groote Eylandt kids to go away for boarding school. This is one of the reasons why we wanted to build our own boarding school here on country. We know that kids will continue to go away after they leave our college, and that there are kids right now who are interested in going away to board.
GEBIPCAC will help families and students explore the different boarding options, and provide assistance with enrolment and attendance. On this page, you will be able to see the schools that we work with so you can learn a little about them.
We are working with new schools all the time, and will add extra information on the schools as we go.
Please drop in to the the GEBIPCAC office if you would like to chat about boarding options.
Holy Spirit Catholic College – Cooktown
GEBIPCAC has helped a number of Groote Eylandt kids to attend Holy Spirit. This school is best suited to students who may have missed out on some schooling, or who need some extra support with their education. The school prides itself on working with students on their education, health and wellbeing to prepare them for future training and employment.
AFL Cape York House – Cairns
GEBIPCAC has a long history of working with AFL Cape York House to support Groote kids’ education. Kids who board at AFL Cape York House get a lot of support for their education, health and wellbeing while attending one of the local schools in Cairns. AFL Cape York House is a great option for students who have good schooling habits and are motivated to do well.
Mount St Bernard College
Located in the beautiful town of Herberton in the Athelton Tablelands, Mount St Bernard College offers a more traditional boarding experience for students. The students who attend the college are diverse and from a broad range of backgrounds, so students have an opportunity to learn and make friends with students from all parts of Australia.
